Until the double-zero new years' novelty glasses become impossible!
I had a good new year's eve this year. I got to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Hammerstein Ballroom. We had really good balcony seats, a perfect place to perch above the sea of hipsters. Maybe it was the overpriced coors light, or the twizzlers, but something about that night made me proud to be a skinny, four-eyed white girl. I went in there expecting to be totally annoyed by everyone, but people were really nice and clearly having fun. I loved looking down on the crowd seeing couples making out in that new year's way, the one or two people who thought it was a rave, and the rampant dorky dancing.
The opening acts were not bad - Owen from Final Fantasy had lost his voice, but showed everyone what cool shit he can do with a violin. Then there was Bob Mould (of Husker Du fame), and though not exactly my cup of tea, he and his band were pretty fun. Finally, Daniel-Day-Lewis-circa-Gangs-of-New-York-lookin Alec, the lead singer of CYHSY, led us off into 2007!
